Governance

The Chelmsford Learning Partnership has responsibility for the governance of its schools, the performance of each school in the group and the financial stability of each school. We have a clear structure to ensure there is effective governance at all levels in our trust.

Members

Our Members play a crucial role in safeguarding academy trust governance. They ensure that the governance of the trust is effective and that CLP Trustees are acting in accordance with our charitable objective of advancing, for the public benefit, education in our schools.

Trustees

The trust board is the decision-making body of our academy trust and is accountable and responsible for all the schools in the academy trust.

The three core functions of our trustees are:

  • Ensuring clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Executive Leaders to account for the educational performance of our school and our pupils and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of our schools and making sure that its money is well spent.
The Chief Executive Officer and the central team

The role of our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is to implement the strategic framework established by our trust board. It is the CEO, supported by the trust central team, who is responsible for the effective operational and day-to-day running of our trust. The CEO works with other senior leaders in the trust central team (such as the Chief Financial Officer, Directors of Education and the Director of Standards and School Improvement) and Headteachers in our schools to ensure that the trust delivers the highest standards of education.

Local Governing Bodies

We strongly believe in the importance of Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) as they provide parental, staff and community representation to the governance of the trust. LGBs are a full and formal part of our trust governance structure who:

  • Support the effective operation of the trust and our policies
  • Provide support and challenge to their Headteachers and Senior Leadership Teams
  • Provide a vehicle for trust board engagement within the schools
  • Bring issues and risks to the attention to our trust board. It is important that the board
